Review: Solid By Shelley Workinger

Solid
Published July 9th 2010 by CreateSpace
Paperback, 221 pages

Summary:
Teens who discover they were secretly genetically altered before birth are brought together at a classified site where they forge new friendships, find love, develop "super-abilities," and even unearth a conspiracy.(Goodreads)

Rating and Review: 3.5
Generally a fast paced nice book. At times it seemed almost predictable but there were some interesting plot twists. Also the changes made to the kids are quite interesting. I'd defiantly be interested in reading the rest of the trilogy just to find out more about those changes and the abilities that come with them. I think people who enjoy Kelley Armstrong's YA books would enjoy Solid.

Review: Need By Carrie Jones

Paperback, 306 pages
Published February 1st 2010 by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

Summary:
Pain shoots through my head
Fireworks. Explosions. All inside my brain.
The white world goes dark and I know what's about to happen

Zara Whit suspects a freaky guy is stalking her. She memorizes phobias and chants them when she's nervous. OK, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But moving to a freezing Maine town to stay with her grandmother is supposed to be the perfect fix - so her mum says.
Except, this plan of sending Zara away to help her stay sane? Yeah, not working. Turns out the stalker is not a figment of Zara's imagination. He's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Main town, and all signs are pointing to Zara.(Goodreads)

Review and Rating: 4
Normally I'm quite picky about what faerie or pixie books I will read but Carrie Jones has done a great job. She separated the pixies from the faeries and has created their own interesting world. She also expanded on the Were territory giving it a new direction. I also loved the phobias listed throughout the book they were very entertaining. For such a young author Carrie Jones has done a wonderful job and I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and would recommend it to fans of Melissa Marr.

Enclave (Razorland, #1)
Enclave by Ann Aguirre
Expected publication: April 12th 2011 by Feiwel & Friends

WELCOME TO THE APOCALYPSE

In Deuce's world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed 'brat' has trained into one of three groups-Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms.

Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember. As a Huntress, her purpose is clear--to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She's worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing's going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade.

When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce's troubles are just beginning. Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn't like following orders. At first she thinks he's crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don't always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth.

Her partner confuses her; she's never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as using his knives with feral grace. As Deuce's perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy... but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she's ever known.

Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
